The Short Answer: Best Pizza in Colorado Springs
If you just want the quick version: Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza up in University Village is the one I actually go back to for a casual pizza night, no dress code, no attitude. If you want New York-style by the slice or the pie, Slice 420 won gold in the 2025 Best of the Springs reader vote. And if you want Neapolitan done properly downtown, Bambino’s Urban Pizzeria is the one locals point to most.
Below is the full list of five, plus who each one actually suits. I’m third-generation Italian, so a wood-fired crust or a real Neapolitan dough matters more to me than a fancy topping list.
How I put this list together
Only one of these five is a place I personally go back to for pizza: Il Vicino. The other four are researched picks, checked against the Colorado Springs Gazette’s 2025 Best of the Springs reader-voting results and each restaurant’s own site for current address, phone, and hours in September 2026. I’m labeling each pick firsthand or researched below so you know exactly what you’re getting, not a page pretending I’ve personally eaten at all five.
One thing that check caught: a lot of Colorado Springs pizza roundups, including an earlier version of this page, still list Il Vicino’s old downtown location at 11 S Tejon St. That location closed for good back in 2019 after 23 years downtown. The University Village location on N Nevada Ave is the one still open, and it’s the address below.
1) Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza: University Village
Firsthand. Il Vicino is a contemporary Italian pizzeria up in the University Village area on North Nevada, and it’s the one I actually go back for wood-oven pizza. Casual, no dress code, no attitude, which is exactly what I want on a regular pizza night. It also took silver in the 2025 Best of the Springs reader vote.

2) Slice 420: New York-style, two locations
Researched. Slice 420 has been expanding since owners Christian and Stefany Patriarca opened it in 2017, and it won gold in the 2025 Best of the Springs vote for New York-style pizza. There are two locations: the Oro Blanco spot in the north-central part of town, and a second on W Colorado Ave. Go here if you want a proper foldable slice, not a knife-and-fork pie.

3) Bambino’s Urban Pizzeria: downtown, Neapolitan
Researched. Bambino’s makes Neapolitan dough from Italian-milled flour, hand-stretched and topped with their own Fior di Latte mozzarella and locally sourced produce and meats, right downtown on Bijou St. It’s the most-reviewed Neapolitan spot in the local roundups I checked, and it’s an easy walk from most downtown hotels.

4) Walter’s303 Pizzeria & Publik House: Flying Horse
Researched. Walter’s303 took bronze in the 2025 Best of the Springs vote, and it’s built around pairing handmade pizza with a serious beer list, around 20 taps of craft beer, cider, and seltzer. This is the pick if pizza night is really beer night with pizza attached, not the other way around.

5) Decent Pizza Co.: Detroit-style, Ivywild
Researched. Decent Pizza sits inside the old Ivywild School building south of downtown and does Detroit-style deep-dish, baked in forged-steel pans for that thick, crispy-edged square slice. The Gazette’s own dining review called it out by name for living up to the “decent” in its title. It’s the pick when you want something heartier than a thin crust.

Which one to pick
For a regular, no-fuss pizza night, Il Vicino is the one I actually keep going back to. If you want a real New York slice, go to Slice 420. If downtown Neapolitan with real Italian-milled flour is the goal, that’s Bambino’s. If beer is at least half the point, Walter’s303 in Flying Horse has the tap list to back it up. And if you want a thick, square, Detroit-style slice instead of anything round, Decent Pizza Co. at the old Ivywild School is the different-enough option worth the drive south of downtown.
Good to know before you go
Hours shift at independent pizzerias more than chains, so double-check the restaurant’s own site or Google listing the same day, especially around holidays. None of these five require a reservation for a normal weeknight, though Bambino’s and Slice 420 get a wait on weekend evenings given how often they show up in local “best of” lists. If a spot you remember from an older list isn’t here, like Il Vicino’s old downtown Tejon St location, check it’s still open before you drive across town, since that one closed back in 2019.
Making a night of it
Bambino’s and Decent Pizza Co. are both south of downtown, an easy walk or short drive from downtown hotels. Il Vicino, Slice 420, and Walter’s303 are all up on the north side, so if that trio is the plan, staying north saves you the drive back across town.
